Larry Mitchell Cottrell, age 67, of Marlinton, passed from this life Friday, September 29, 2017, at Nella’s Nursing Home in Elkins, under the care of West Virginia Caring. He had been in declining health following a battle with prostate and stage four lung cancer.

Born October 14, 1949, in St. Albans, he was a son of the late Ronzel Lawrence and Irene Elizabeth Scarbro Cottrell. He never married nor had children.

Larry was a 1968 graduate of Ansted High School and was employed in the maintenance department at Denmar State Hospital for 20 years. He enjoyed being a Ham Radio operator and working on electronics. He loved going to the Green Bank Senior Center. One of his favorite things was family picnics in the pavilion in Marlinton.

He had been saved and attended church as a youth and had recently rededicated his life to Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Rebecca Hawver Goertler.

Those left to cherish his memory are three siblings, John T. Cottrell, and wife, Charlotte, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rosalea Lowers, and husband, Wade, of Parkersburg, and Margaret L. Brown, and husband, Pastor Leon Brown, of Beverly; two nephews; and four nieces.

Funeral service was held September 30 at Restlawn Memory Gardens Chapel in Ansted with Pastor Leon Brown officiating.

Memorial contributions in Larry’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or a charity of your choice.
