Lady Warriors win one, lose one

Game 8 – vs. Greenbrier East, September 20

At half-time the Pocahontas County High School Lady Warriors were behind 0-2. Although the Warriors out-scored Greenbrier East in the second half 1-0, it wasn’t enough for a win. The final score was 1-2 Greenbrier East.

Scorer was sophomore Savannah McMillion on a penalty kick.

Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders, juniors Sage McLaughlin, Kira Bircher and Laila Calhoun.

Defenders and midfielders, led by senior Brianna Hefner, juniors Emily Casto, Elizabeth Hefner and Amelia Rose, and freshmen Macaden Taylor and Hazel Riley, cleared the ball out of the backfield 34 times.

Goalkeeper sophomore Sienna Bircher saved 13 goals of Greenbrier East’s 16 shots on goal, and allowed two. Casto also blocked one shot on goal.

Game 9 – at Braxton County, September 22

At half-time the Lady Warriors were ahead 3-0. In the second half, they scored three more goals and Braxton County scored three. The final score was 6-3 Pocahontas.

Scorers were senior Brianna Hefner, juniors Kira Bircher and Chloey Sharp, and sophomore Savannah McMillion. Assists on these goals were from B. Hefner, juniors Alexa Taylor, K. Bircher and Sharp, and sophomore McMillion.

Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders, senior Marlee McLaughlin, junior A. Taylor, and freshman Mackenna McKenney.

Defenders and midfielders, led by juniors Amelia Rose, Emily Casto and Elizabeth Hefner, senior Josey Faris, and freshmen Macaden Taylor, Rayna Smith and Hazel Riley, cleared the ball out of the backfield 35 times.

Goalkeeper sophomore Sienna Bircher saved nine of Braxton County’s 12 shots on goal, and allowed three.  

The Lady Warriors’  re-cord is now 6 wins, 0 ties, and 3 losses.

Their upcoming games are away at James Monroe, Bluefield, Petersburg and Shady Spring. Their last game of the regular season will be at PCHS Saturday, October 13, at 11 a.m.
