Lady Warriors end regular season with a win

The Pocahontas County High School Lady Warriors soccer team won its last regular season game October 13 against Nicholas County at home.

At half-time the Lady Warriors were ahead 2 – 1. Neither team scored in the second half, ending the game with a final score of 2 – 1 PCHS.

Scorers were sophomore Savannah McMillion and junior Cloey Sharp. Assists on these goals were from juniors Kira Bircher on a corner kick and Alexa Taylor on a cross from the right.

Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders, senior Marlee McLaughlin and juniors Elizabeth Hefner, K. Bircher, A. Taylor and Laila Calhoun.

Defenders and midfielders, led by juniors Emily Casto, Amelia Rose, E. Hefner and Sage McLaughlin and freshmen Macaden Taylor, cleared the ball out of the backfield 32 times.

Goalkeeper sophomore Sienna Bircher saved four of Nicholas County’s five shots on goal, and allowed one.

The Lady Warriors’ record is now 10 wins, 0 ties and 4 losses. Sectionals are the week of October 15.
