Kathleen White Flynn, age 91, of Hickory, North Carolina, died Sunday, November 3, 2013, after a short illness.
Born August 25, 1922, at Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Bethel Dillon and Moletta Reeves White.
Kathleen attended public schools in Maryville, Tennessee. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and a Master’s and Specialist degrees from Western Carolina University at Cullowhee, North Carolina. She was a teacher at Falls Church, Virginia, Director of Kindergartens in Cary, North Carolina, and Professor of Early Childhood Education, Western University, Cullowhee, North Carolina.
She was very active in her years since retirement. Kathleen took part in the activities of the Cullowhee United Methodist Church, was a volunteer counselor for United Christian Ministries and a volunteer at the main desk, Harris Regional Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph White and Harry White; and a sister, Velma White Hord.
She is survived by her husband, Paul S. Flynn, of Hickory, North Carolina; daughters, Jenny Rymell, and husband, Robert, of Asheville, North Carolina, and Susan Flynn, of Lincolnton, North Carolina; a son, Paul Flynn, and Scottie, of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Jessica Pogue, and husband, Blake, Carson L. Flynn, Emily S. Rymell and Michael P. Rymell; great-grandchildren, Connor Pogue and Nolan Pogue; and two brothers, Carl and Homer, both of Maryville, Tennessee.
Graveside service is Thursday, November 7, 11 a.m. at the Arbovale Cemetery with Rev. Mark Flynn officiating.
