Katherine Elanore Sheets, 85, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in the Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Born June 12, 1939, in Cass, she was a daughter of the late John Edward and Olive Katherine Gum Sheets.

Following the death of her parents, Katherine was raised by her paternal grandparents, Griffie and Bertie Galford Sheets and attended Green Bank High School.

She was a member of Loch Willow Presbyterian Church in Churchville, Virginia.

Katherine loved flower gardening, country music, cloud gazing and bird watching, especially cardinals, hummingbirds and owls. She adored collecting owl figurines as a part of her love for birds.

Katherine will be remembered for her wonderful down-home cooking and her beautiful smile that touched so many. She loved long rides in the country and attending the Highland County Maple Festival and the Fall Festival. She retired in 2000, as a caregiver for the elderly, her true passion.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and will be sorely missed by those who loved her.

She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis D. Back, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, and Kimberley Sue Vance, of Staunton, Virginia; grandson, Ryan A. Deola; nephew, Chris Pullin; and niece, Julie Pullin. Katherine also cherished her relationships with her cousin, Eva Neighbors, and husband, Buss; their daughter, Martha Neighbors; and a special friend and hairdresser, Sharon Estes, whom she dearly loved.

At Katherine’s request, there will be no public service.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory in Staunton, Virginia, is in charge of her arrangements.

Condolences may be shared with the family online at coffmanfuneralhome.net
