Julie Sutton

Julie VonMuenster Sutton, of Hayden, Colorado, peacefully departed this life Monday, February 1, 2016, at her home, following an extended battle with lung cancer.

Born November 5, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Ester VonMuenster.

Julie grew up in Clarence, Iowa, graduated from the University of Iowa and accepted a teaching position in Flossmoor, Illinois, where she met William “Bill” Sutton, formerly of Arbovale. They married October 26, 1963, and remained so for the next 52 years.

In 1966, Julie and Bill resided in Des Plaines, Illinois, and became the parents of Hollie Sutton, born May 11, 1966. In 1992, being retired, Bill and Julie moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, to be closer to their daughter. In 2000, their granddaughter, Cassidy Crawford, was born.

In 2005, Julie, Bill and Hollie sold their respective homes and purchased a ranch in Hayden, Colorado. The ranch is an active place with flower gardens, vegetable gardens, horses, goats and fields of hay and pasture.

Julie’s love for music was apparent throughout her life as she was involved with piano lessons, band, choir, writing music and directing both adult and children’s groups. Many were touched by her musical gifts over the years. She was a very faith-based person and became involved, sharing her gifts in each of the congregations she attended throughout the years. She always stayed connected to those friends she had made.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Hollie Sutton, and granddaughter, Cassidy, both of Hayden, Colorado; sister-in-law, Alice Gurie, of Norton; and brothers-in-law, Ivan Sutton, and wife, Bessie, of Sykesville, Maryland, and James Sutton, and wife, Marge, of Elkton, Maryland.

A Celebration of Life was held February 5 at the Hayden Congregational Church in Hayden, Colorado.
