John Edward Lane, age 90 years and seven months, of Midway, North Carolina, formerly of Buckeye, passed away Monday, November 18, 2019, at the Hospice Hinkle House with his loving wife and youngest daughter by his side.
Born April 1, 1929, in Claysburg, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Laura Pritt Lane.
John enlisted in the United States Army July 6, 1951, and fought in the Korean War. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Korean Services Medal, three Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal and Marksman Badge with Carbine Bar. He received an Honorable Discharge June 9, 1954, and re-enlisted the very next day for three more years.
He retired from Burns Motor Freight and Pocahontas County Landfill. He was an active member of the Marlinton Church of God, where he was a past Sunday School Superintendent and a Board Member.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only brother, Oliver Isaac “Buck” Pritt; and three sisters, Betty Lane Tincher, Margaret “Polly” Lane Barrett, Shirley Lane; and a step-daughter, Brenda Galford.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dorothy Dever Galford Lane; four children, Cathie Galford Holbrook and Captain Rockie Galford, both of Texas, Robina Galford White, of Tennessee, Rhonda Galford Spach, of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2 p.m. at Marlinton Church of God with Rev. Fred Goldizen. Interment will follow in Ruckman Cemetery near Mill Point. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service.
