Jane Kay Kirk, 80, of Florence, South Carolina, died peacefully Sunday, June 18, 2023. Born in Marlinton, March 14, 1943, she was the daughter of the late James and Isabelle Michael.

Jane earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from West Virginia University. After relocating to Anne Arundel County, Maryland, for a teaching position, she met and married a fellow educator, Eugene Kirk. After 10 years as a stay at home mom, Jane went back to college for a degree in accounting and also earned her license as a Certified Public Accountant. She worked for many years at Hughes, Wilson and Associates in Severna Park, Maryland. She retired from accounting in 2010 and moved to Florence, South Carolina, to be near family.

In her free time, she enjoyed adventure sports including long distance road biking and sailing. Some of her accomplishments include bicycling across Maryland and Spain as well as sailing a sailboat from Maryland to her new home in Port Charlotte, Florida, in the early 2000s. She also enjoyed quieter, more artistic activities such as knitting, quilting, glazing stained glass, cooking, baking, gardening and solving jigsaw and sudoku puzzles. She leaves many beautiful knitted items and quilts to her descendants.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest child, Christopher Kirk.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Kirk, of Bishopville, South Carolina; daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, Heather, Chloe and Isabelle Kirk, of Cape Saint Claire, Maryland; and her brother, Thomas Michael, of St. Clairsville, Ohio.

At Jane’s request, there was no formal service.

Her body was committed to the Earth Monday, June 26, 2023, at Kings Mountain Preserve, in Blacksburg, South Carolina.

In memory of Jane’s lifelong love of animals and in lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate that donations be made in her name to any animal shelter or animal welfare organization of your choosing.
