Jace Birchfield

Jace David Birchfield, age 2, was granted his angel wings on Thursday, March 13, 2014, following a 15 month battle with cancer. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends whom Jace touched in some small way throughout his short, yet memorable life.

Born January 16, 2012, he was a son of Joshua and Tiffany Birchfield, of Timberville, Virginia.

Throughout Jace’s fight with the rare fast growing cancer called AT/RT, he possessed incredible strength and nothing less than bravery. He beat the odds time and time again –– overcoming physical challenges caused by his brain tumor and stroke. He taught us that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.

Jace enjoyed cuddling, music, sleeping late, playing with his cousins and listening to stories his “Sissy” would read him. His favorite colors were red and blue. He also attended church on Sundays at the Greenmount Church of the Brethren. He spent some family time this past summer at Smith Mountain Lake on his Pawpaw’s boat, and loved the wind blowing in his face. He also loved spending time with his family going for walks, fishing and checking out big work-trucks.

In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by a sister, Elexis Crisp; both sets of grandparents, David and Terry Birchfield, of Linville, Virginia, Timothy Crisp, of Elkton, Virginia, and Sonja Crisp, of Ohio; great-grandparents, Kathleen Birchfield, Robert Maynard; aunts, Courtney Crisp, of McGaheysville, Virginia, Jessica Crisp, of Grottoes, Virginia, and Jessica Wenger, and husband, Andrew, of Bridgewater, Virginia; cousins, Caitlynn, Hunter, Nathaniel and Marley; and an extended family who loved him dearly.

Memorial service is March 19, 2 p.m. at Greenmount Church of the Brethren with Pastor Ken Dolan officiating. Interment will be private.

Memorials may be made to to Greenmount Church of the Brethren, 4551 Greenmount Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.
