Hayward Colaw

Hayward F. Colaw, age 96, of Franklin, and formerly of Durbin, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Born June 20, 1919, in Durbin, he was a son of the late James and Mary Annia Gragg Colaw. Hayward worked at Howe’s Leather Company as a leather grader. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II. He was a member of the Durbin Church of the Brethren.

On December 8, 1945, he married Edna Hevener, who preceded him in death February 14, 2002.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Colaw and Vernon Colaw; and three sisters, Monna Feather, Velma Sutton and Wila Smith.

He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca C. Jenkins, and husband, John Michael, of Franklin; a brother, Junior Colaw, and wife, Kathleen, of Colonial Nursing Home in Elkins; two granddaughters, Amy Moyers, and husband, Brad, and Jennifer Hartwell, and husband, Nathan; and four great-grandchildren, Abby Moyers, Ryan Moyers, Jacob Hartwell and Benjamin Hartwell.

Funeral service is Thursday, March 17, noon at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Revs. David Rittenhouse, Donnie Curry and Kevin Hand officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Graveside service will held at 3:30 p.m. in the Gum Cemetery in Durbin, with Rev. David Collins officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps.
