Baxter Presbyterian Church in Dunmore will hold its 81st Annual Harvest Day Auction Saturday. The event begins with a worship service at 11 a.m., followed by dinner at noon. The auction will begin between 1 and 1:30 p.m. at the Dunmore Community Center. Among the handmade crafts, baked goods, canned goods and more, is a crazy quilt which is always the highlight of the auction. This year, Sharon Hively, right, shown here with Kestra Pritchard, completed the quilt herself. The colorful blanket harkens back to the traditions passed down by Dunmore residents.
On this year’s quilt, Hively paid tribute to the deceased and older members of the church by stitching their names into the quilt squares. While taking on tasks such as piecing together a large quilt is daunting, Hively is a pro at it. “I’ve got thirteen squares made for next year,” she said.
Pritchard added, “There’s a lot of tradition in this day and the quilt is one of the traditions.” S. Stewart photo
