Harry Raymond McCloud, age 68, of Marlinton, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 10, 2017.
Born June 7, 1949, he was a son of the late June and Agnes Sharp McCloud.
Harry was a gifted athlete. He was the tailback of the Marlinton High School 1967 State Championship Football team; and starting guard on the 1968 State Championship Runner-up Basketball team. He went on to play football at Concord College as a punter and while there, set the WVIAC punting distance record of 77 yards. Harry played shortstop for the Marlinton Rangers softball team.
He loved the game of golf. Harry’s golf score of 59 during a club tournament, at which he also carded a hole-in-one, was the lowest score ever shot at the Pocahontas Country Club; and may still stand today.
Harry was a talented musician, playing many different instruments, but was a master of the banjo. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was a long-time employee of Pocahontas IGA and had retired this summer after 31 years of service.
He was saved in the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille Withers, Carol Tyree and Mildred Jean McCloud; and a brother, James McCloud.
He is survived by his sisters, Lenore Donovan, and husband, Joe, and Nancy Kershner, all of California, June Cutright, of Elyria, Ohio, and Sharon Mullens, and husband, Kennith, of Marlinton; a brother, Warren McCloud, and wife, Linda, of Elyria, Oho; and many nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes, the body will be cremated and the family will hold a private memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to WVMR, 9836 Browns Creek Road, Dunmore, WV 24934; or the Harry R. McCloud Athletic Fund, c/o City National Bank, 800 Eighth Street, Marlinton, WV 24954.
