Gladys Vandevander

Gladys Lee Vandevander, age 89, of Franklin, formerly of Thornwood, passed away Friday, May 29, 2020, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

Born September 24, 1930 in Thornwood, she was a daughter of the late Ora and Nelia Slatin Vandevender.

Gladys married Thomas William Vandevander, who preceded her in death.

She was the last member of her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, William Mackie, Jimmie, Berlin and Doll Arnold; and three sisters, Bessie Mullenax, Mary Louise White and Carrie Starks.

Gladys is survived by a daughter, Rosalee Grogg, of Sugar Grove; three sons, Don Vandevander, of Hedgesville, Garland Vandevander, of Hinton, and Lee Vandevander, of Franklin; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held June 2, 2020, with Pastor Calvin Bailey officiating. Burial was in Vandevender Cemetery in Thornwood.

Memorials may be made to Franklin Rescue Squad.
