George Samuel Waybright, Sr., age 84, died Sunday, August 24, 2014, at his home.

Born February 24, 1930, at Cave, he was a son of the late Kennie and Ollie Elizabeth Mullenax Waybright.

George was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired from American Safety Razor in 1988. He attended Linden Heights Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, hunting and NASCAR.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George S. “Sammy” Waybirght, Jr.; and two brothers, Nevin and Lester Waybright.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Wenger Shephard Waybright; a daughter, Diana Cash, and husband, Gary, of Churchville, Virginia; a step-daughter, Bonita Wine, and husband, Scott, of Waynesboro, Virginia; three sisters, Lucille Back, Mary Johnson and Dollie Varner, all of Churchville, Virginia; three grandchildren, Kajun Waybright, Tonya Young and Michelle Gregory; two step-grandchildren, Kayley and Andrew Lyman; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was August 27 at Linden Heights Baptist Church followed by an afternoon visitation at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale. Burial was in the Arbovale Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Bill Sullivan, Charles Hisey, Steve Knight, Mark Morrison, Dale Gregory, Bill Craig, Richard Wimer, Gary Kisamore and Joe Back.

Memorials may be made to the Linden Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 371 Linden Drive, Staunton, VA 24401.
