George Charles Liptak, Jr., age 78, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, after a short illness.
Born March 15, 1935, at Clarksburg, he was a son of the late George and Antoinette Liptak.
George graduated from Victory High School in Clarksburg and attended West Virginia University where he was a marksman on the rifle team.
In 1960, after serving his country in the United States Army, he married Diane Elaine Felton, also from Clarksburg. In 1967, they moved to Arbovale to raise their family. George retired from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory after 30 years of employment.
George was a master gunsmith, known and admired by many for his craft. He loved fly fishing and hunting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lisa, Beth, David and Michael; a sister, Mary Ann Obyc; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial service will be Saturday, March 15, 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Bartow. Interment will be in the Arbovale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
