George Henry Behrens, Jr., age 82, of Green Bank, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017, at his home.

Born July 8, 1934, in New York City, New York, he was a son of the late George Henry Behrens, Sr. and Gae Iadarola Behrens.

George was a 1952 graduate of Bergenfield High School in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1956. He was a 1960 graduate of the University of Maine, earning a BS degree in Electrical Engineering.

He was a member of the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps and the American Legion. He retired from the NRAO as an Electrical Engineer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Ward Behrens, in 2009; great-granddaughter, Caliegh Behrens in 2016; and a brother, Robert “Bobby” Behrens.

He is survived by his sons, Hank Behrens, and wife, Susan, of Russell, Kentucky, Karl Behrens, of Dallas, Texas, and Kurt Behrens, and wife, Kimberly, of Blue Ridge, Virginia; grandchildren, Austin Behrens, Heath Behrens, and wife, Brittany, and Victoria Behrens, all of Ashland, Kentucky; step-grandchild, Tyler Seco, of Roanoke, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Carsyn and Cadence Behrens; step-great-granddaughter, Olivia R. Seco-Craighead; a niece, Gaeta Stratton, of Sonoma, California; and companion, Barbara Crist, of Cass.

Funeral service was held February 19 at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home with Pastor David Fuller officiating. Interment was in the Arbovale Cemetery with Military Honors by the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps.
