The three-hour SETI Tour at the Green Bank Observatory celebrates the observatory’s Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence.
Participants begin with an exclusive presentation right in the control room of the historic 85-1 Telescope where the search began with Frank Drake’s OZMA Project.
From there, guests enjoy a rare tour inside the 140-foot telescope control room where Jill Tartar’s Project Phoenix began, followed by a visit to normally-restricted GBT access points.
The tour ends in the Drake Lounge where guests will be greeted by GBO staff and learn about the future of SETI as GBT embarks on the new Breakthrough Listen project.
If you’ve ever wanted to be inside the operation control rooms or to speak to a radio astronomer in person, then this is the opportunity of a lifetime.
Advance reservations and screening at least 40 hours in advance are strictly required.
Limited spots are available as this tour only accommodates a maximum of 20 participants. This tour is for ages 12 and up, and is not handicapped accessible
