With the help of AmeriCorps volunteer Christin Shinaberry, students at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School collected items for a community clothing drive.
This is the second community project the students have done with Shinaberry.
“We already did the one for the animal shelter and we wanted to do a little something extra before the end of school,” she said. “We have 1,080-some pieces of clothing.”
The clothing drive began as a way to collect clothing for the ever growing students, but the community reached out and gave clothes from every closet.
“It started out just for the students, and families in the community just wanted to chip in and the whole household donated – bags and bags of clothes,” Shinaberry said. “It’s literally going to be for everybody. Kids of all ages and parents can come in.”
The clothing give-away will be held June 7 through June 10, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the school.
Every family is allowed three outfits per child and two additional outfits for the adults. Hats, gloves, shoes, and other accessories will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
Clothing brands include American Eagle, Hollister, Aeropostale, NorthFace, etc.
