Auctioneer’s Association
Gilbert A. Jack has been notified that he has been accepted as a member of the West Virginia Auctioneer’s Association and given the title of Colonel. This organization is composed of outstanding Auctioneers all over West Virginia. This is the first auctioneer in Pocahontas County to belong to this organization. Jack has auctioneered 20 years over a four-county area.
MISSED
With sadness we report the death of a faithful worker in our office. Mrs. Maxine Dever died unexpectedly Saturday night of a heart attack and leaves a void in the office and in our hearts. She was always here, hated holidays, rarely complained, and was our “reminder,” with an amazing faculty of remembering birthdays.
SNOWSHOE
The skiing season is over, and Snowshoe closed Monday for a period of 60 days. At that time, weather permitting, construction on condominiums will start. Work on the lake, golf courses and tennis courts is planned.
The building of the big Leatherbark Lodge has been indefinitely postponed and smaller lodging units are planned.
Snowshoe had more than 30,000 visitors despite a late start and the skiing is rated excellent. They had about 140 inches of snow – and some rainy weekends too.
Inflation, high interest rates and the recession have caused problems. Company officials met on March 7 with all creditors and plans were made to pay all debts on a four-year program.
