A group of Pocahontas County farmers attended the annual bull sale at Still House Farms near Hume, Virginia, November 16. The sale of 70 bulls averaged $1,200 with five bulls purchased by the local farmers. Attending were Kenneth Kelley, Steven Moore, Dewey McCarty, Harper Galford, Everette Dilley, Jr., and son William, and Delbert Moore.

The rains Saturday and Sunday raised the streams, and ice ran in the Greenbrier most of Sunday. The automatic flood warning system worked fine, and the runoff and predictions of the rise worked out precisely according to Fred Burns, Jr. The temperature drop with returning snow Sunday evening allowed the melting.

Hunter Sharp, of Marlinton, will celebrate his fifth birthday Friday, December 13. His brother, Cal Sharp, will help him celebrate.
SNOWSHOE
Snowshoe opens for skiing this Friday. The slopes are ready with 18 inches of natural snow, four or five of which fell Sunday and Monday and six or seven expected this week. The weather outlook is good for the weekend. They lost about half their snow in the past weekend thaw and rain…
The cafeteria will be ready with food prepared under Chef Alfredo Morales, who comes to Snowshoe from Sugar Mountain. He was formerly with the Army Club in Hawaii.
Something as big as this opens in stages. An official celebration of sorts will be held January 25. The resort will be growing for years to come. The big hotel with the indoor recreation facilities is scheduled to be started in the spring but interest rates and financing will have a lot to do with the timing. Snowshoe now has about 125 employees; counting those hired by the contractors, the number is around 225.
COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE
A bronze plaque commemorating the late Thomas C. Edgar was affixed to Room 201 at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital last month, thus completing the furnishing of a three-bed ward. The room was outfitted by the West Virginia Easter Seal Society in memory of the former member of the State Legislature and includes modern beds, tables, dressers and chairs…

Mrs. Azalea Virginia Galford Scalise, beloved wife of Casper Frank Scalise, of Culver City, California, passed away November 26, 1974. Born in Marlinton, a daughter of Emmett G. Galford and Lanie G. Galford.
