Miss Margaret Gay has donated some books, photographs and clothes in styles of bygone years to the Pocahontas County Historical Museum. One 1884 book is Instructions for Weaving, with various patterns, etc. A pamphlet history of Hillsboro community by Miss Minnie Wallace is included. Some other books came from the Marlins Bottom Presbyterian Church. Then there are some hand bills advocating the building of a courthouse at Marlinton since the one at that time (1891) would have to be replaced…

HILLSBORO FOOTBALL
Hillsboro ended its first football season Friday afternoon by winning its Homecoming game with Renick Junior High 6-0. Although Hillsboro scored three times during the game, two of the touchdowns were called back because of penalties. The only score that counted came in the third quarter when halfback Terry Neal dove over from the 5-yard line.
Defense is what won the game and Coach Jerry Buzzard was very proud of the way his boys played. Renick never did cross the 50-yard line during the game.
Members of the Hillsboro squad are as follows:
Eighth Grade – Terry Neal, Phillip Hill, Mike Kinnison, Bill Walton, Greg Rose, Doug VanReenen, Lester Good and Gary Cutlip.
Seventh Grade – Bobby Simmons, Jim Roberts, Ronnie Hall, Jeff Pritt, Marc Johns, Troy McCoy, Danny Akers, John Simmons.
Sixth Grade – Kevin Workman, Dave Walton, Mike Deputy, Bruce Rose.

A BIT OF HUMOR
As we grow older, we don’t have to avoid temptation. Temptation avoids us.
An after-dinner mint is what you need these days to pay the bill.
Note from tax department on taxpayer’s return: “Shall we go over this item by item, or would you prefer to chicken out now?”
