WHY?
Why can’t Green Bank and Marlinton play ball without someone wanting to fight, without hard feelings and name calling. In short, what has happened to “Sportsmanship?”
Is it something to be left at home when these teams meet?
Last Friday night, Marlinton and Green Bank Elementary Schools’ football teams played at PCHS. Next year, these same boys will be on the High School team together, yet they failed to display any sportsmanship in the final game against each other. Several years ago, when Green Bank and Marlinton were both high schools, things got so bad that these two teams were banned from playing each other for a period of five years. This not only ruined “homecoming” but was a big factor in the loss of interest in football at the two schools. In every game, someone must win, and someone must lose, and it is not how well one wins that shows character, but how well one loses.
When these two teams learn to play against each other, without malice and bad feelings, then they can look forward to a more rewarding team together when they are in high school. – from Green Bank School
FIRE
Fire burned about 75 acres near Clover Lick Monday afternoon. It is believed some careless hunters were the cause. The Marlinton Fire Department, the BFD unit from Cass, and the Forest Service fought it.
