Emma Nottingham

Emma Grace Nottingham, age 99, of Durbin, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Pennsylvania.

Born March 3, 1922, at Monterey, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late William Franklin and Jessie Varner Simmons.

Mrs. Nottingham served the town of Durbin in the positions of Treasurer, Mayor and Recorder Clerk. She was of the Methodist faith, a homemaker and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis; great-grandchild, Cole Robbins; sisters, Marie Miller, Dorothy Langlois and Margaret Jessie Ano; and brothers, Williams, Paris, Leroy and Walter Simmons.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Moats (John), of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania; son, William D. “Buck” Nottingham (Ingrid), of Ahoskie, North Carolina; grandchildren, Deneen Robins, Michael Moats and Devona Lassiter; great-grandchildren, Katie Robbins, Mikayla Moats, Austin Lassiter, Kyle Moats and Zach Moats; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Friday, July 2, 2021, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with Pastor David Rittenhouse officiating.

Interment was in Arbovale Cemetery.
