Emery Anderson

Emery L. Anderson, age 91, of White Sulphur Springs, died Friday, January 15, 2016, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, following a brief illness.

Born November 29, 1924, at Spice, he was a son of the late Emery Ernest and Prudie Susan McCoy Anderson.

Emery was a 1942 graduate of Marlinton High School, a 1949 graduate of Davis & Elkins College and a World War II Navy Veteran. After graduating and serving his country, he was a coach and teacher at Marlinton High School and Davis High School. He then taught and became principal at Hillsboro High School, then principal at White Sulphur High School and White Sulphur Junior High for 24 years. He retired in 1985.

Mr. Anderson was a very active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs. He was a member of the American Legion and Retired Teachers Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 2014 by his loving wife of 61 years, Rosetta “Rose” White Anderson; a son, Walter Lake Anderson, in 2015; three brothers, Marvin Anderson, Melvin Anderson and Clyde Anderson; and two sisters, Olive Schneider and Lucille Dinwiddie.

He is survived by three sons, Rodney Carl Anderson and Randy Dirk Anderson, both of White Sulphur Springs, and Brian Matthew Anderson, and wife, Lori Lobban Anderson, of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren, Jordan Anderson, Mallori Anderson, Levi Anderson and Alec Anderson, all of whom were the apple of his eye.

Funeral service was January 18 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church with Pastor Shari Stilgenbauer officiating. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery in Marlinton.

Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs.

Shanklin Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs is serving the family.
