Ella Greathouse

Ella Lucille Morgan Greathouse, age 93, of the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2017. She had been in declining health and was under the care of West Virginia Caring.

Born August 29, 1923, at Durbin, she was a daughter of the late Charles Elmer and Melissa Morgan. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Ella was a cook for many years for restaurants in Pocahontas County. She was the first Green Thumb worker for the Senior Citizens in upper Pocahontas County. She was an aide for play group at the Durbin Library; and retired in 1994 having worked many years at the Green Bank Library.

She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church on Back Mountain Durbin. She had been a resident of Elkins Manor for 15 years, and a resident of Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center for three and a half years. Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, quilting, crocheting, working puzzles and she enjoyed playing Dominoes and Bingo with her friends.

Ella was married to Ivan “John” Greathouse for 42 years. He preceded her in death March 13, 1982.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dale Greathouse; a daughter-in-law, Frances Greathouse; two sisters, Mary Moore and Madeline Ratliff; and three brothers, Lonnie Morgan, James Morgan and Harry Morgan.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna Hommema, and husband, Chuck, of Elkins; five grandchildren, Kevin Greathouse, and wife, Sharon, Carl Greathouse, and wife, Regina, and Donald Greathouse, and wife, Wanda, all of Durbin, Michele Hommema VanMeter, and husband, David, of Elkins, and Brian Hommema, and wife, Lourie, of Buckhannon; seven great-grandchildren, Fallon Greathouse, and companion, Tommy Gray, Jenna Greathouse and Jordan Greathouse, all of Durbin, Nathan Cooper and Nicholas Cooper, both of Elkins, and Brady Hommema and Brycen Hommema, both of Buckhannon; and a great-great-granddaughter, Sierra Cheyanne Gray.

Funeral service was held August 29 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastors Allen Johnson, Harold Swecker and Carl Great-house officiating. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery.
