Eleanor Yvonne McGinnis Janes, 82, of Chocowinity, North Carolina, died peacefully at home Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

Born August 14, 1941, in Preston County, she was a daughter of the late Louis W. McGinnis and Bessie A. Pratt McGinnis.

Eleanor was a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Clarksburg. As a Registered Nurse, she worked primarily in obstetrics and family practice, and held leadership positions in nursing associations, driven by a strong purpose to remediate illnesses and provide comfort.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching wild-life. She was good at board games and was known for cheating at Monopoly.

In addition to her parents. Eleanor was preceded in death by her siblings, George W. “Bill” McGinnis, Viola P. “Pearl” (McGinnis) Tichnell Gerald R. “Rex” McGinnis, Anna K. “Katheryn” McGinnis Hartley, and Woodrow W. “Wayne” McGinnis.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harlan Russell Janes; two children, Viki (Janes) Gossen, and husband, Thomas, of Forest, Virginia, and Beverly Janes, of Chocowinity, North Carolina; three grandchildren; and extended family memebers.

Funeral service was held April 19, 2024, at Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston. Burial was in Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
