Edward Monk

Edward Allen Monk, age 80, of Bridgewater, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

Born October 28, 1935, at Boyer, he was a son of the late Burnell and Orpha Rosberg Monk.

Ed was a telephone technician with A&E, Contel and GTE. He retired in 2000. He was a member of Summit Church of the Brethren and had served in the United States Air Force.

He married twice, first to JoAnne Griffitts Monk, who preceded him in death June 1, 1975; then to Margaret Jones Monk, October 21, 1978.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Allen Monk; and two brothers, Ronnie Monk and Wendall Monk.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Jolynn Newsome, of Round Rock, Texas, Elizabeth Harkins, and husband, Adam, of Richmond, Virginia, Steven E. Monk, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Patrick A. Monk, and wife, Avery Gaskin-Monk, of Brooklyn, New York; two sisters, Joan Barkley, and husband, Martin, of Boyer, and Gloria Greathouse, and husband, Buster, of Eastern Shore, Maryland; a brother, Doug Monk, and wife, Ginger, of Elkins; a grandson, Jerome Newsome; two sisters-in-law, Polly Monk and Linda Monk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held January 8 at Summit Church of the Brethren with Pastor Tim Craver officiating.
