Duane Wilfong

Duane Delbert Wilfong, age 90, of Mentor, Ohio, died peacefully Saturday, February 20, 2016, following a struggle with cancer.

Born February 15, 1926, in Pocahontas County, he was a son of the late Clarence and Chloe Wilfong.

He and his wife, Viola, age 91, have resided in Ohio since 1951; fifty nine of those years on Jordan Drive in Mentor, Ohio.

Duane retired from FP&E Railroad in Fairport, Ohio. He proudly served his country with the 1st Battalion 11th Airborne Division in the United States Army. He was Honorably Discharged November 1946. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and Occupation Ribbon for his service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Duane L. Wilfong; brothers, Norman (Leta) and Starling; and a sister, Mary (Angel).

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lonna Kuntz, and husband, Fred, and Dianna Zalar, all of Painesville, Ohio, and Johanna Bush, and husband, Larry, of Hawley, Pennsylvania; a son, Clar-ence Wilfong, and wife, Janene, of Toledo, Ohio; a step-daughter, Donna Diercks, of Phoenix, Arizona; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Raymond, and wife, Edna, Warren, and wife, Dolly, and Corbett.

Per his wishes, there will be no service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th Street, Cleveland, OH 44119-1330.
