Dorothy L. “Dotty” Kellison, 87, got home after a long trip sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
I figured she was about ready for the rest.
Born April 24, 1936, at Marlinton, she was one of twin daughters of the late Ray and Edna Johnson Weatherholt.
Dotty graduated from Marlinton High School then married Jack Kellison. This union produced three children, Kenneth Allen Kellison, and wife, Debbie, Karen Lynn Kellison Sharp, and husband, Randy, and Daniel Clark Kellison.
After getting on with the Pocahontas County Sheriff Department as a tax deputy in the 70s, she was elected sheriff for one term in 1980.
After the marriage ended, this remarkable lady continued her public service career in several ways – school system, FEMA, Census, Town Administrator, Recorder and then Mayor. In her old age, just to keep busy, she went to work for both the Richardson and Burns families, which she continued to do until her own issues got the better of her.
Heart problems in her later years kept her pretty close to home, but she enjoyed her porch and her dog – and Patrick Mahomes. I guess I was closest to her in the last four years, and I can attest that she loved her family, Cooper and Ginger, NFL football, fresh sweet corn, Jesus and good whiskey. Not all in that order. I ran with her for 54 years, and I have no complaints.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 3, 2024, 2 p.m. at Lantz Funeral Home in Buckeye with Pastor David Lee officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service.
In keeping with her wishes the body will be cremated.
In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to Marlinton Presbyterian Church or the Pocahontas County Humane Society.
