Dennis Charles Driscoll, Sr., 82, of Marlinton, passed away Monday, September 28, 2026.
Born January 2, 1944, in Providence, Rhode Island, he was a son of the late John L. Driscoll and Yvonne R. Dugas.
Driscoll moved to Marlinton in 1997 after teaching carpentry, architecture and woodworking for 32 years at Smithfield High School in Smithfield, Rhode Island. He spent 12 years with the ambulance corps and 11 years steering the Scituate Art Festival Committee.
While living in Marlinton, Driscoll served as the town’s mayor from 2007 to 2011. One of his favorite projects was working on the Smithsonian display “The Way We Worked” which was a huge effort with many events and activities highlighting Pocahontas County’s logging heritage which was on display at Town Hall for six weeks in 2011. Driscoll built the display boards and, most importantly, along with community members Nelson, Agust, Mike and Emery, built the replica of the river ark that was vital in the transport of logs during the era.
Driscoll served on the boards of Seneca Health Services and the Pocahontas County Historic Landmarks Commission. He was a member of the Marlinton Rotary Club for many years and was a charter member of Watoga Art in the Park.
While living in Marlinton, he continued to read the “Providence Journal” online so he could keep up with the accomplishments of his former students and their children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Paul Driscoll (2003) and Donald Joseph Driscoll (2014).
He leaves behind to cherish his memory a son Dennis Charles Driscoll Jr, of Belchertown, Massachusetts; and his long-time companion, Gail Hyer, of Marlinton.
Service was private and burial was at Mountain View Cemetery.
