David Wayne Sparks, age 91, of Marlinton, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital in Buckeye.

Born October 9, 1924, at Pence Springs, he was a son of the late Jonah Roy and Letha Pingle Sparks.

David was a retired laundry worker at Denmar Hospital. He was a life long member of the Marlinton First Church of the Nazarene, a World War II United States Army Veteran and a member of the VFW and American Legion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Sparks, Roy Sparks, Jr., and Sam Sparks; two sisters, Frances White and Madeline Shreve; and a granddaughter, Jennifer.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn Frances Jackson Sparks; two daughters, Debra Roy and husband, John, of Marlinton, and Eleanor Nelson, and husband, Oran, of Morgantown; five sons, David W. Sparks, Jr., and wife, Sandra, and William Sparks, and wife, Shelia, all of Morgantown, Paul Sparks, and wife, Diana, of Marlinton, Timothy Sparks, and wife, Missy, of Buckeye, and John Sparks, and wife, Margie, of Arbovale; four sisters, Ruth Lanneum, of Texas, Thelma O’Quinn, and husband, Hershel, and Helen Jackson, and husband, Elmer, all of Elkins, and Sue Williamson, and husband, David, of Florida; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was February 5 at the Marlinton First Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Hershel O’Quinn and Donny Brown officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery with Military Rites by the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps.

Memorials may be made to the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps.
