Dan Alan McCord, age 66, of Sterling, Virginia, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born February 15, 1948, in Norton, Kansas, he was a son of the late Francis Elery McCord and Janice Adele Brown McCord.
Dan was a 1966 graduate of Yorktown High School in Arlington County, Kansas and attended Fort Hays State College in Kansas. He retired from the Department of Interior, US Geological Survey in 2004 with more than 30 years of service.
Dan was a life member and former president of the Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad and a member of Common Ground Church in Leesburg, Virginia. He was an avid athlete and gymnast and enjoyed skiing, volleyball and fly fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Judith Friel McCord; daughters, Jennifer Breeden, and husband, Michael, of Leesburg, Virginia, and Valerie Inman, and husband, Matthew, of Herndon, Virginia; grandchildren, Brooke, Brent, Troy, Calla, Drake and Haley; sisters, April Phillips and Misa “Deb” Mulroney; a brother, Patrick McCord; mother-in-law, Ruth Friel, of Marlinton; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral service was September 20 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, Virginia.
