Connie Mae Hamrick Waybright, 86, of Green Bank, peacefully passed away Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Pocahontas Center in Marlinton.
Born March 8, 1940, in Cass, she was a daughter of the late Fred Dudley Hamrick and Mae Flora Davis Hamrick.
Connie was a beautiful woman, inside and out. A homecoming queen in her younger years, she possessed a natural charm, quick wit and generous spirit that drew people to her. She made others feel welcomed and valued, giving freely of herself without seeking recognition.
Above all, Connie cherished her family. She shared 65 years of marriage with her husband, Donald “Donnie” Lee Waybright. Together they raised two children, Denise and Don, who were the joy of her life. She was a constant source of encouragement and strength, and she treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Connie enjoyed a successful career as an Administrative Associate with BG&E Gas and Electric Company, retiring at the young age of 58. Following retirement, she returned to the mountains of West Virginia, making her home in Green Bank. She embraced the beauty of the mountains and the community she loved.
One of the most meaningful moments in Connie’s life came at the age of 77, when she publicly professed her faith in Jesus Christ through baptism at Arbovale United Methodist Church.
Connie brought joy to ordinary moments through her humor, kindness and generosity. Her influence will continue through the family she cherished and the many people whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her sisters, Ernestine Clarkson, Ruth McLaughlin, Hilda Galford and Joyce Hamrick; and brother, Frank Hamrick.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Donald “Donnie” Lee Waybright; daughter, Denise Gaigler, and husband, Jeff, of Severna Park, Maryland; and son, Donald Lee Waybright Jr., and wife, Theresa, of Richmond, Texas; five grandchildren, Derek Waybright, Dylan Waybright, and wife, Kristin, Danielle Munoz, and husband, Isaac, Maxx Gaigler, and wife, Linda, and Alexx Gaigler; and six great-grandchildren, Riley Kropf, Henry Waybright, Bowen Munoz, Amelia Waybright, Dakota Munoz and Sophia Munoz.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2026, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale, with Pastor David Rittenhouse, Pastor Julian Rittenhouse, and Pastor Donald Waybright Jr. officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon until time of service.
Burial will follow.
While her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in the promise of Jesus Christ, who said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” (John 11:25)
Her family rests in the living hope that Connie has entered the presence of the Savior she came to know and trust.
A beautiful life. A remarkable woman. A lasting influence on all who knew her.
