Betty Jean Shinaberry Sharp, age 93, went to be with her Lord Jesus Monday, March 24, 2025.
Born in Huntersville, February 11, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Harmon and Hattie Shinaberry.
Betty was married for 70 years to the love of her life, Craig Sharp.
Betty worked at the A&P/SuperFresh Grocery Store for 30 years before retiring. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church for many years serving in the nursery and on various committees. Betty had a servant’s heart and was always willing to sacrificially help others in need. She was always putting others before herself. Throughout her life, she worked hard with all her heart as if she was doing it for God. Betty embodied the Proverbs 31 woman, lovingly taking care of her family, friends and community.
Betty loved canning homegrown vegetables. She was always competing with Craig on whose canned pickles tasted better, and she was declared the winner by most of her family. After proudly examining her finished canned goods, she proceeded to bless her children and grandchildren with her labor of love. In the fall, she could be seen picking up pecans from the neighbors’ trees. She quickly put Craig to work cracking every nut. After all was done, there were many gallon-bags with which she lovingly blessed her children and friends.
Betty assisted Craig and his friends for 15 years cooking Brunswick stew to raise money for many deserving groups and causes such as church mission trips, educational scholarships, youth ball teams, etc. At times, she would peel 200 pounds of potatoes by herself.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Sarah Nelson and Mary Frances Crone; and a brother, Jimmie Lee Shinaberry.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Deborah Sharp, Rex Sharp (Vickie), Teresa Workman (Bob), and Cynthia Perdue (Randy); six grandchildren, Elizabeth Kamstra, Sarah Workman, Brooke Perdue, Daniel Sharp, Brandi Gunn and Mason Perdue; nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Harmon Shinaberry, Jr. (Frances).
A funeral service was held Friday, March 28, 2025, at Enon Baptist Church in Chester, Virginia. Interment was private.
The family was served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to your church or favorite charity.
