Barkley wins public speaking competition

Noah Barkley accepts congratulations from host Kevin Okes at the SE Region Public Speaking Contests at Liberty High School. Noah is the son of Matthew Barkley, of Boyer.

Pocahontas County High School sophomore and FFA vice president Noah Barkley won the Southeastern FFA Regional Public Speaking competition held at Liberty High School in Raleigh County March 10.

Noah’s topic pertained to various trade policies such as NAFTA and the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement, and how those policies affected the beef industry.

Noah delivered his seven minute, 35 second memorized speech and fielded questions from two judges for five minutes.

Noah’s success qualifies him for the State Prepared Public Speaking Contest which will be held at the State FFA Convention in Cedar Lakes in July.

PCHS freshman Charity Morrison placed third in the Creed Speaking Competition at the same site in Raleigh County.

After her efforts, she also expertly fielded questions from judges.
