Alma Mae Walker Heyne, age 74, of Halifax, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, Carolyn’s House in Linglestown, Pennsylvania.
Born December 17, 1942, in Lobelia, she was a daughter of the late Ezra E. and L. Madeline Holmes Walker.
Alma enjoyed music, cooking, decorating and collecting antiques. She listened to country and bluegrass music and was a big fan of Elvis. She owned the Halifax Hotel –– “Home of Bluegrass” for more than 20 years, which hosted the Annual Bluegrass Festival attended by thousands. She was a local antiques dealer and worked at GIANT Food Stores in Halifax, Pennsylvania.
She loved returning to her beautiful home state of West Virginia, where she grew up in Hillsboro, where some of her siblings still live today.
Alma had many roles in her life, but none she loved more than being a Mother and Grandma. Her family will always treasure the wonderful holiday gatherings at her beautifully decorated home, as well as meals they shared, which were like no other.
She was warm and generous, and will be sadly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her longtime partner, Gerald Walsh; two sisters, Betty Walker and Mildred Brown; and a brother, Austin “Pat” Walker.
She is survived by three sons, Delano Martin “Marty” Heyne, Jr., and wife, Darla, of Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, Jeffrey Heyne, and wife, Cari, of New Freedom, Pennsylvania, and Gerald “J.J.” Walsh, of Halifax, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Justin Heyne and Joshua Heyne, both of Baltimore, Maryland, Mason Heyne, and wife, Kylie, of Elkins, and Ayrianna Walsh and Alayna Walsh, both of Halifax, Pennsylvania; a great-granddaughter, Delaney Heyne, of Elkins; eight siblings, Dallas Walker, of Dunwoody, Georgia, Franklin Walker, of York, Pennsylvania, Norman Walker, and wife, Connie, E. Eugene Walker, and wife, Ann, Mary Clutter and Bernice Lucabaugh, all of Hillsboro, Vernon Walker, of Craigsville, and Curtis Walker, and wife, Shirley, of Mill Point; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 12, 11 a.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Interment will be in Emmanuel Church Cemetery at Bruffey Creek. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
