There’s a new shop in town, and it’s named for its owner – Allie Erlewine.

Opening last week on the corner of Main Street and First Avenue in Marlinton, Allie’s Shop is a one-stop-shop for those in need of a hair cut and style.

Erlewine, a 2013 Pocahontas County High School graduate, said she always wanted to come back to Pocahontas County and was fortunate to find a place for her business.

“I really wanted to be in Pocahontas County, and I kind of thought I could drive to Lewisburg or to Snowshoe,” she said. “I really didn’t want to do either, so I thought, ‘why not bring something to Marlinton?’”

Now with her dream realized, Erlewine is ready to serve the community that she is happy to call home.

At this point, Erlewine is the only stylist at the shop – where she offers cuts, conditioning treatments, color, and facial waxing. As things move along, though, she plans to expand the business.

“This winter, I’m planning on expanding as far as getting someone in here to do nails and, then in the spring, I’m thinking about getting some tanning sessions going.”

She also plans to offer perms in the future.

Erlewine graduated from cosmetology school in 2015 and honed her skills in Morgantown and North Carolina before returning to Marlinton.

“I got training for hair, skin and nails,” she said. “I really like color and hair more so than anything else, so I decided to stick with hair and wax.”

While she styles, cuts and colors hair for men, women and children, Erlewine said her favorite part of the job is coloring hair.

With the trend of color going to extremes lately, she is able to do subtle highlights, natural colors and even the more extreme, bright colors.

Along with the common color techniques, Erlewine also uses a technique called balayage, which is a way of highlighting hair with dye by painting it on in layers. The technique gives a nice ombre look where the color transitions from a light to a darker color.

Allie’s Shop is open Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
