Allen Parsons

Allen Ray Parsons, age 71, of Beaver Creek Road, lost his fight with cancer Monday, August 24, 2015, at Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem, Virginia, with his family by his side.

Allen was a proud Veteran of the United States Army 11th Air Assault Division. He drove tractor-trailers for 40 years and retired from Burns Motor Freight.

Allen was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Parsons and Arlis Parsons; a sister, Patricia Parsons; and a brother, Larry Parsons.

He is survived by his wife, Alessia Parsons; two sons, Michael Parsons, and wife, Dawn, of Jacksonville, Alabama, and James Long, and wife, Tiffany, of Beaver Creek; a sister, Diana Melton, of Beaver Creek; six grandchildren, Brett Parsons, of Suwanee, Georgia, Morgan Parsons, of Kennesaw, Georgia, Dylan Hurst, of Jacksonville, Georgia, Jerika Moore, Bella Long and Chanel Long, all of Beaver Creek; three nephews, Edwin Dale Kinnison, of Cass, Brian McLeer and Bobby McLeer, both of Orange, Virginia; and a niece, Amelia Kinnsion, of Arbovale.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, August 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at VanReenen Funeral Home. Funeral service is Thursday, August 27, 6 p.m. at VanReenen Funeral Home with Norman Lee Alderman officiating. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery with Military Honors by the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps.
