The Marlinton Lions Club recently made a donation to McClintic Library in memory of Shenda Smith. Retired teacher Glenda VanReenen and Smith served together on the Pocahontas County Opera House Board, and Smith also served as the head of the Youth Committee for Children’s Theatre productions.
VanReenen wanted to do something to honor Smith, who unexpectedly passed away in March 2024. Smith had a wide variety of interests and held degrees in music and environmental science.
Working with the staff at McClintic Library, donated funds will be used to purchase books and materials aimed at elementary and middle school aged students.
Those books and materials – including water testing kits – will educate a new generation as well as honor the memory of a very talented teacher and friend.
