Girl’s State and Boy’s State

Caren Cummins, a junior, has been chosen to attend Girls State at Jackson’s Mill.

The qualifications for Girl’s State are: 1. Honesty. 2. Leadership. 3. Community participation and service.

Matt Myers, a junior, has been chosen as a representative for Boy’s State at Jackson’s Mill.

The qualification for Boy’s State are: 1. Must be a junior 2. Good health 3. School activities. 4. Not married.

FIELD DAY

Marlinton Elementary School held its Field Day May 24. The children participated in a variety of events. The children from each grade level who received the highest number of points received Best Athlete Awards. The following is a list of Best Athletes:

First Grade: Michelle Withers, Kevin Barlow and Kevin Irvine.

Second Grade: Ernestine Ramsey, Lisa Alderman, Petey Burdette.

Third Grade: Shelly Hel-mick, Tony Pondexter.

Fourth Grade: Rayetta Landis, Brett Withers.

Fifth Grade: Charma Roy, Robert Reed.

Sixth Grade: Susan Fultz, Jack Marshall.

Seventh Grade: Amy Vrable, Mark Dilley.

Eighth Grade: Kathy Wagner, Ronnie Dean.

Scholastic awards were presented to the following who excelled in academic work:

First Grade:
