Penick was a resident of the Ben Atchley State Veteran’s Home in Knoxville, Tennessee, and spent the last year of his life in Knoxville, Tennessee, to be near his daughter and her family due to his failing health.

On May 20, 1967, Penick began his 43 year marriage to his beloved wife, Jenny Dalphena Rose.

Penick was a member of the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro and served for many years as a deacon. He was a former Mason and served in the United States Air Force. He was active in his daughter’s education. He and his wife were named Parents of the Year in 1986.

His last position was working for the Marlinton Forest Service in the senior program. He was well known as the mail carrier and community barber in Hillsboro. His most beloved positions include that of a father, grandfather and husband.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Thompson.

He is survived by his daughter, Christie Rose Cook, and husband, Donald, and their twin sons, Justin and Logan, all of Knoxville, Tennessee; a sister, Mary Vaughan, of Hillsboro; a brother, David Rose, and wife, Mary Ann, of Joppa, Maryland.

Funeral service was June 1 at the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andy Rice officiating. Assisting with the service was Rev. Cameron Harkness and special guest, Rev. Don Thomas, of Knoxville, Tennessee. Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery with a 21 gun salute in appreciation of Penick’s military service.
