The Pocahontas County Opera House will present a swinging, patriotic performance by the Ladies for Liberty Saturday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m.
In honor of all veterans who have served our country, the Pocahontas Opera House Foundation is offering free admission to any former service member who comes in uniform or presents their military ID tags at the door.
In addition to the music, a photo exhibit of Pocahontas County World War II veterans will be on display in the lobby, courtesy of Preserving Pocahontas.
The Ladies for Liberty revive the great music of the 1940s and WWII era in the style of the Andrews Sisters. Through their own rendition of vocals, costumes, hairstyles and the spirit of patriotism reminiscent of the 1940s, that period is remembered and celebrated by the Ladies for Liberty as “When America was at its finest.”
The Ladies have performed for a number of national and international air shows, World War II reunions, dinner theaters, variety shows, hangar parties, aircraft museums military functions and ceremonies, parades, television appearances, radio broadcasts and any other events having a patriotic flavor.
The Ladies for Liberty are best known for their precision-timed, a cappella rendition of the National Anthem that has become their trademark at open-air shows across the country.
The Pocahontas County Opera House is located at 818 Third Avenue in Marlinton. Performances at the Opera House are informal, family-friendly and open to all. The entrance and main seating are accessible to persons with disabilities. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to attend; special accommodations can be arranged upon request by calling 304-799-6645.
The Opera House Performance Series is presented with financial assistance through a grant from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. Support is also provided by Pocahontas County Drama, Fairs and Festivals, the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, Pendleton Community Bank, the Law Office of Roger D.
