Howard David Collins, Sr., 85, of Collinsville, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Franklin Health and Rehab in Rocky Mount, Virginia.
Born August 19, 1936, in Durbin, he was a son of the late Jess Lee and Madeline Cosner Collins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 2020 by a brother, Jesse Charles Collins.
Howard is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Dorothy Haddon Coll-ins; son, David Collins, Jr. (Shelly) of Stuart, Virginia; daughter, Becky Collins Hall, of Shelby, North Carolina; grandchildren, Meagan Collins, Andrew Collins, Austin Hall and Zackery Hall; great-grandchild, Paisley Goad; brother, Arthur Collins (Karen), of Bartow; sisters, Fay Collins Moore, of Martinsville, Virginia, Ruth Davis (Fraser), of The Villages, Florida, Joan Lantz, of Durbin, Thelma Smith (Howard), of Bassett, Virginia; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Howard was a 1954 graduate of Green Bank High School. He was a member of Fort Trial Baptist Church in Stanleytown, Virginia. He served in the Air Force and worked at the FBI. He moved to Martinsville and worked as a truck driver, retiring from the J.P. Stevens Company. He was also a bus driver for the church. Howard and Dot loved camping at Smith Mountain Lake where they met many friends.
A military funeral service was held January 4, 2022, at Bassett Funeral Home in Bassett, Virginia, with Pastor Tony Beach officiating.
