This postcard shows the Pocahontas County Courthouse in Marlinton as it looked in the 1940s. The courthouse was built in 1894 when the county seat was moved from Huntersville to Marlinton. It is a two and a half story brick, Victorian Romanesque building with a stone raised basement. The front elevation features two towers, one at each corner. The architect was M. F. Giesy and the builder was Manly Manufacturing Company of Dalton, Georgia. The jail building is partially visible in the back. The Pocahontas County Courthouse and Jail were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. (Courtesy of Susie Smith, ID: PSB000203)
