The second First Friday of the summer was a huge splash July 2 at Discovery Junction in Marlinton. The highly anticipated splash pad at the new town park was officialy unveiled and turned on to the excitement of the youngsters. At the center of the water feature is a tree with a black bear clutching it. Water pours out of the tree and shoots out of the cement beneath.
The park was filled with tourists and residents visiting and enjoying the many features of the First Friday event, including live music from Elk River Ramblers, Roy Moose and his collection of snakes, a petting zoo featuring sheep, goats and horses, and fun activities like bubbles, a shooting gallery and Mitchell Chevrolet’s basketball hoop contest.
