In 1932, the State of West Virginia established a trout hatchery with one building near Edray on the waters of the McLaughlin or Big Spring on Stony Creek. Dick Smith, of Edray, was the first Superintendent. This postcard features a photograph taken around 1935 following construction of the long building, carpenter shop, runways and residences. Winston Herold, of Minnehaha Springs, and C.C.C. workers did the building, stone work and landscaping. The hatchery is still in operation today. (Courtesy of Mary Dawson, ID: PHP002943)
