Girl Scout Troop #35032 members Kirsten Friel and Taiylor Hoke recently received the Silver Award from the Black Diamond Council for their expansive project for the Pocahontas County Animal Shelter. The girls put together pet adoption kits which include bowls, toys, brushes, treats, food, dog collars, litter pans, scoops and litter. In addition, they sewed dog, cat, kitten and puppy beds for each pet to take to their new home. Knowing that pets are not immediately adopted, Kirsten and Taiylor also made sleeping mats for the animals who will spend time at the shelter. The Pocahontas County Animal Shelter expressed their thanks and appreciation to the girls for the hard work and contribution to help improve the lives of the animals that pass through the shelter. According to girlscout. org “when Girl Scout Cadettes focus on an issue they care about, learn the facts, and take action to make a difference, they gain the confidence and skills that will catapult them to lifelong success. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Silver Award—the highest honor a Cadette can achieve.”
Kirsten is the daughter of Andy and Andi Friel, of Marlinton. Taiylor is the daughter of Mike and Amanda Hoke, of Marlinton.
