The Pocahontas County High School Warrior golf team ended the season October 7 with a fourth place finish in the WVSSAC Class A State Golf Championship at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling. To qualify, the PCHS team won the WVSSAC Region III Tournament at Pipestem with a score of 268. David Gibb was the team’s lowest scorer at regionals with an 84, but that is not all that made the game memorable. While waiting his turn at the sixth hole, Gibb was struck in the face by a ricocheted ball. If he left the game, PCHS would not qualify for the state tournament. Gibb was treated by EMS, continued to play, and was later treated at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.
Led by coach David Moore, team members are from left: Michael Kane, David Gibb, Hadden Mick and Benjamin Dunz.
