John Sherman McCarty, of Catlett, Virginia, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2020, at his home.
Born July 10, 1942, at Hillsboro, he was a son of the late Ellis Harrel and Zela McMillion McCarty.
John was retired from the US Geological Survey and, in recent years, was owner of McCarty Equipment Sales in Haymarket, Virginia.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a stepson, Robbie.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie Boone McCarty, whom he married June 20, 1986; his sons, Shawn Ellis McCarty (Connie), and John Sherman McCarty, Jr. (Sherry), from his first marriage to Helen Wamsley Layman; stepchildren, Debbie and Jimmy; and two brothers, Louis J. McCarty (Barbara), and Harrel L. McCarty (Marian).
Burial will be private.
