In answer to numerous inquiries, Eagle Lake will be located at the head of Hills Creek, close to Route 39, above the falls.
Cass School
A large crowd gathered in the Cass School Auditorium on Sunday afternoon, May 24, for the closing ceremony of the Cass Graded School.
The school will close at the end of this school year after serving this area for 69 years. The boys and girls of this school will be transported by bus to Green Bank Graded School…

Virgil B. Harris, Principal of Green Bank Graded School, made a short talk to welcome the pupils and parents to Green Bank this fall.
Mr. Tracy turned the keys to the building over to the members of the Board of Education, Julian Hamed and Robert Vance. Special music was presented by Mrs. Coy Mathews and her daughter, Debbie. Songs by the audience were led by Mrs. David Rittenhouse, with Wilmer Ruckman at the piano.
Prizes were awarded to the oldest graduate present, Allen Blackhurst, a member of the first graduating Class at Cass School in 1911; the youngest graduate present was Miss Debbie Mathews, a member of the 1967 class, and to Jake Ray, from Twin Falls, Idaho, traveling the greatest distance to attend the ceremony…
Minister Obtains Advanced Degree
The Reverend Vernie L. Bolden, a 1956 graduate of Hillsboro High School, was awarded the Master’s degree during the June 2 Commencement Exercises of Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Bolden obtained his A. B. Degree from Marshall University and he earned the B. D. Degree from Crozer Seminary.
The Reverend Bolden is the pastor of St. John’s Congregational Church in Springfield, Massachusetts. He is also a member of the faculties of Western New England College and Springfield Technical Community College.
Kentucky Colonel
Sam C. Hill, of Hillsboro, has been honored by being commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by Kentucky’s Governor Louis B. Nunn. The basis for recognition of Mr. Hill was his great service to the cause of Scouting, particularly in locating and establishing the Buckskin Scout Reservation at Dilley’s Mill here in Pocahontas County, after the old Camp McClintic near Williamsburg was outgrown…
